Leaving (For Caleb)

Hold back some tears at work
Hold back some thoughts at work
Hold onto great memories of the last 60 days or so
And when you leave I let it go

Born on an awful day in history
Lost a legend
Sinking ships
Payed a portion
And you far outweighed it all

Country to country
Culture to culture
But our blood is the same
Wherever you're heading
Our blood is the same wherever you are

I pray for your safety
As the plane leaves the ground
But I've prayed for that since I can remember

The Ones We Lost

We tried
We fought
Nearly died
Or so we thought

We lost
We forfit
Very worn
We don't get it

Sometime soon
I hope I see you somewhere
And you look like something
Other than the thin air

The knowledge
Was too much
The empty
and smudged writing I always felt got me nowhere

Meant nothing more when we gave up application
But somehow left some script barely readable while we waited

It said come to me weary and come heavy laden
I won't weigh you down...

Often
I wish
I could remember
How to forget
Often
I wish
I could surrender
Often
I wish
Damnation
Desecration
Destruction of the temple
Who could forget
How often the story is told
How often I recall
The destruction of oppressors
In the might of the water walls
As they came apart
on top
of them all
All this being said and/or written
Brokenness is for all of us
The ones running the oppressed into the sea
The ones running from the oppressors
Wake up dead man, rise from the dead

The Shadow

Look down
From the swingset
Distorted by the angle of the sun
Cutting around your body

That represents so much
Dark in the light
You're distorted form is the only dark in the light on the ground

We run
We run as fast as humanly possible
Thinking that if we shed pounds and turn just right
We will not leave behind darkness

The only way we will cast no shadow in the light stream
Is when we are no longer in it's way of it's path
Or when you are and it burns right through you

Video Conference

Christmas Day
We are thousands of miles away
Countries and states dividing

USB
A simple periphrial with a camera attached
Opens living rooms across the world

Mothers and father
Sisters and Brothers
And anyone you can imagine

Odd scheduled workers
No leave soldiers
Missionaries driven to stay the course

Technology
We can be in the same room
Regardless of distance
